Americom, the leader in Central Florida in the cellular retail agency business, was founded in October of 1995 and was initially started as an exclusive agent of GTE Wireless Products.  In the successive years, Americom has evolved into an entity that now represents one of today’s most popular wireless carriers… Sprint (together with Nextel).

President Jeffrey Rodgers founded the company after a successful career with GTE where he was twice awarded the coveted Winners Circle award for his prominence in national sales achievement. The first Americom location was established in Bartow to serve the central Florida area.  The Bartow location has since relocated and now serves as the headquarters for its six-store chain that stretches from Winter Haven to Port Charlotte.

Since its inception, Americom has focused on customer service. With its central focus of identifying and fulfilling the customer’s wireless needs on a daily basis, Americom has continued to grow through the fine efforts of an experienced and knowledgeable sales staff that collectively has over 50 years of wireless experience.  This focus has allowed Americom to excel as a leading sales agent for Sprint in the Florida region.

In 1998, Americom was the first to partner with Nextel Communications in their service area.  Expansion for Americom started in 1998 with the opening of our North Lakeland operation. In the fall of 2000 the Winter Haven location was opened and in 2002 the company expanded to its present size with the addition of stores in Bradenton, Port Charlotte and Sebring.

Americom has been awarded the Platinum Partnership Award for years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005 from Nextel and Motorola.  Americom has also achieved Nextel’s prestigious Gold Level Dealer status.  This status ensures that Americom can provide all levels of sales and service to any Sprint/Nextel customer.  In addition to retail, corporate, and government activations, each location offers a service and repair center for most wireless brands.  A complete accessory display is present in all locations.

Americom currently operates six locations in three major metro markets.  Americom’s past success allows us to be positioned to continue providing a high standard of excellent customer service and the facilitation of wireless data and other related wireless applications.

In 2005, Sprint merged with Nextel to form the 3rd largest cellular provider in the nation.
